When should I start training my puppy?

Start teaching & training immediately! Setting your home up before your puppy comes home can be a hefty advantage for when they arrive. Once they're home, they're learning habits. Very young puppies will benefit from boundaries and clear communication right away. Puppies at and over 8 weeks begin learning ALL THE THINGS, in little bite-sized sessions.

Can my puppy become a therapy or service dog?

If your dog has an agreeable and friendly demeanor, they may be a good fit for therapy work. Therapy dogs comfort people who are in need, such as going to children's hospitals, fire houses, and retirement homes. These dogs are NOT service animals. Training your puppy to become a service dog is strictly for persons who have a diagnosed disability. No exceptions.

What is socialization? Someone told me to wait until my dog is vaccinated. Is that right?

Yikes, don’t wait! Puppies who don’t get positive socialization before 4 months old are much more likely to exhibit fear, anxiety and aggression - often a lifelong effect. It actually changes the way their brain develops. Please start socializing your puppy right away. Socialization is helping to create positive associations with environments, people, animals, noises and anything you expect them to experience in their life with you. During all of our puppy programs we cover how to socialize your puppy before and after their vaccines!

Socialization is happening from the age 3 weeks to 16 weeks at rapid speed. It’s imperative to expose them to positive experiences NOW. Do not wait. There are simple modifications to make while your dog is still getting their vaccines. Your pup will still learn about the world after 16 weeks old though it will be different and typically takes longer for them to accept new things after this point. Socialization is a lifelong practice for every puppy parent To continue.
